Born in the historic violin making town of Markneukirchen, Germany, Gustav Meinel set out to London at the turn of the 20th century and established a shop there. He specialized in violin repairs and dealing with fine instruments; several master instruments passed through his workshop. His own instruments are based on those master models. Later in his life, he moved to Dublin and worked with the luthier G. William Hoffmann.
