Contemporary American luthier Dirk Henry studied his craft under Cesario Amesquita and Mark Womack. He spent five years as a workshop manager where he gained experience in repairing instruments as well as making his own. His instruments have been praised for their sound and workmanship, receiving a Silver Medal for Tone and an Overall Silver Medal for one of his violas at the VMAAI competition in 2015.
