Paul Hart became interested in musical instruments while he was in high school and began making his own without formal training. He worked for Peter Prier Violins and was a teacher at the Violin Making School of America for several years before opening his own shop. He received a Gold Medal from the Violin Society of America in 1978 for viola workmanship and again in 1980 for cello workmanship. He has taught some of the most prominent American contemporary luthiers, including Jay Ifshin, David Gusset, and Benjamin Ruth.

Originally an accomplished violinist and violin instructor, Mark Moreland turned his interests to violin making and repair in 1975. He was an apprentice of Paul Schuback for three years. He has worked for several prominent American violin shops, including the Schuback Violin Shop, Eastman Strings, Potter Violin Shop, and Robertson & Sons. He now owns his own shop in the Pacific Northwest and has received several awards in international violin making competitions.
