Following his training in his native country of France, Claude Fougerolle moved to Canada where he established his own shop in Montreal. He made instruments in the French style for several decades and taught some prominent Canadian luthiers such as Ivo Loerakker. He later moved back to France and continued to make violins there. His instruments are known for their rich, full, and complex tone.
